Agua Fria-New River NRCD
Conserving 879,880 acres of Arizona
The Agua Fria NRCD is located just north of Phoenix. The District lies in a rugged area with mainly desert shrub-type vegetation. Land ownership is a mix of private, State, and federal lands. Much of the land is used mainly for livestock grazing, farming, wildlife, and watershed protection. Agua Fria receives heavy recreational use because of its proximity to Phoenix and a growing, local population.
Nominations for District Supervisor Are Now Open!
The open seat is for a new 6-year term. To be eligible, a candidate must be 18 years of age, a resident of the District, a registered voter in the State of Arizona, and have a Cooperator Agreement on file.
A regular candidate nomination petition requires the signatures of district cooperators, while a write-in nomination petition does not require signatures.
Write-in nomination petitions must be filed by March 25, 2024
Regular nomination petitions must be filed by April 24, 2024
Election Day is May 4, 2024

On-the-Ground Conservation
Dedicated to Educating the Next Generation of Conservationists
The AFNR NRCD is largely involved in the Arizona Envirothon, a statewide competition for high school students where teams of five demonstrate their knowledge in natural resource conservation areas including aquatic ecology, soils and land use, wildlife, forestry, and an environmental "theme" that changes yearly. Teams and coaches work with natural resource conservation specialists to learn about these topics and gain an understanding of how all resources interact with the greater ecosystem. The winning team earns prizes and a chance to represent Arizona at the annual NCF Envirothon.
On-Farm Water Management Case Studies
Our district is focused on achieving a higher degree of efficiency in water management. The mission of the conservation board is to be the center of all conservation and environmental activities. Thus we aim to concentrate on an inventory of all of our local resources and problems, including water use, flood control, groundwater, pollution, education, or urban sprawl into prime farmland.
